St. John Lutheran Church's current Mission Services have evolved              
through its partnership with Pastor Bezaleel Hernandez and Cristo Rey         
Mexicana Luterana in Reynosa, Mexico and the Southwest Texas Synod   
Frontera/Border Ministries program.  Operational funds have been                
received from private donors and grants from Thrivent, Southwest Texas  
Synod, ELCA, and Wheat Ridge Ministries.

 Mission emphases include:
1.
St John mission educational outreach in colonia in north Edinburg TX
and in colonia in Alamo TX.  

2. Non-profit small business, CCC: Women of Faith & Creativity to market    
craft products made by women from churches in Mexico and South Texas.

3. Wellness clinics that include vision, blood pressure, blood sugar  and other
nursing assessments needed by presenting patients.  Prior to 2010 clinics
were held in border towns in Mexico, but due to the increased drug violence
clinics are now only held in South Texas colonias or Parroquia Mexicana
Luterana Cristo Rey in Mission TX.

4. Vacation Bible School (2012) at Parroquia Luterana Cristo Rey (Mission  
TX).

5. Coordination with northern churches seeking immersion learning/mission
experiences in Mexico. Visiting northern churches are St. Paul Lutheran from
Grand Island NE (2010), Faith Evangelical Lutheran from Waconia MN (July
16-22, 2011, July 2013 and June 2014), Redeemer Lutheran Church from
Minneapolis MN (July 2013 and June 2014), and St John Lutheran Church
from Kasson MN (July 2013 and June 2014).

6. Food, clothing, and home furnishings distribution to needy families in           
South Texas communities.

7. Construction assistance has been offered to needy families in South           
Texas.
